About The Band

WORLD5 is all about music and long lasting friendships from around the world.....literally. Meaning.... they live in four different countries on 3 continents bringing unique prespectives and influences to the creation of their songs. They record parts, in each of their own studios, send those parts to each other to play along with, and talk on Skype regularly about the project. Their work has got the worldwide attention of music producers, radio stations and music magazines.

It all started when Raimund Breitfeld & Steffen Goeres played guitars together during their early school days. Years later Don Bruner came to Germany touring with the classic rock band Ethan Reilly & The Boys, singing & playing keyboards and going back and forth from California to Germany starting in 1988.Quite often staying in Raimund Breitfeld band's hometown Deggendorf, Germany - Don Bruner and Raimund Breitfeld met. Raimund heard "The Boys" many times and offered Don the lead vocalist spot in his band which also included Stephan Goessl on Sax.  The core of WORLD5 was formed..... Don Bruner, Raimund Breitfeld, & Stephan Goessl. The band performed with this line up for several years playing many of Don Bruner's original songs. In 1995 Don moved back to California. Raimund and Don always stayed in touch over the years. 2010 came along and  Raimund got in touch with Don  again. Raimund offered Don to be part of a new project which they named WORLD5. Soon Steffen Goeres and Stephan Goessl and long time friend of Don's, Roland Childs came on board reuniting old band mates with a new purpose. "To record, produce and share with listeners brand new songs developed with years of musical experience and with influences from around the world."

Don Bruner - lead vocals, piano, keyboards,

San Diego, California,  USA

Don Bruner was born in Santa Monica, California. As a child he was always interested in music. First making noise with a cello then trumpet his parents bought a piano. Don’s fingers were too small for the piano so he had to settle with playing music by using a tennis racket as a guitar and singing along with Beatle records. His parents became quite sick of the Beatles by the way. This is how music careers are born. Shortly after that the family moved to Santa Barbara, CA. Not knowing very many kids in his new town and since his fingers had grown considerably and his vocal squeaks started turning into a voice, Don spent that entire summer teaching himself chords on the piano so that he could sing and play his favorite songs. Don started writing his own songs as well. His interest in music turned into a passion so Don got some piano lessons and with all the squeaks in his voice gone he spent his high school and college days singing and playing keyboards in bands. Then it was off to Los Angeles to seek fame and fortune as a singer and songwriter. Eventually several songs that Don co-wrote landed on a CD on the Boohoo Records label called “Ruckus”.  One of the songs, “In My Wildest Dreams”, hit number one in 2000 on the Independent Country Radio charts. After a band or two, or maybe it was three and different recording projects, Don joined up with “Ethan Reilly & The Boys” a classic rock band touring Germany. After a year or so Don was in Germany more than in the states, decided he liked bratwurst and beer so he moved there. “The Boys” ended up being the house band for Radio Antenne Bayern the biggest radio station in southern Germany. During this time “The Boys” opened for such classic acts as Jerry Lee Lewis, ZZ Top, Suzie Quatro, The Bay City Rollers, Herman's Hermits, Percy Sledge and German artists the Fantastischen Vier and Peter Mafay. More important than that Raimund Breitfeld saw a “Boys” concert and invited Don to be the singer in his band. Stephan Goessl was also in the band….Don, Raimund and Stephan didn’t know it at the time but this was the beginning of World5.“The Boys” went their separate ways and it was time for Don to head back to California where he set up a professional recording studio in his home. That recording studio came in handy because once again Raimund called him up and invited him to work on a new recording project singing and playing keyboards. That project turned into what is now the band called World5. Don has worked in the studio over the years with some top professionals in the music industry: Legendary producer and sound engineer the late Sye Mitchell. Sye's credits included gold records for working with The Supremes, Jackson 5, Barbara Streisand, Janis Joplin, Chicago, Simon & Garfunkel, Buffalo Springfield. Sye also worked with Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Rick Springfield, Randy Newman and many others. Producer/Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Paul Sabu who is credited with production and engineering on 14 Platinum and 11 gold records. He has worked with David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Madonna, Robbie Neville, Prince, Shania Twain, many others and numerous movie and tv soundtracks.

Steffen Goeres - lead & acoustic guitars, trumpet, fluegelhorn

Wellington, New Zealand

Growing up in Bavaria, Germany, Steffen’s initial musical influence came from his mother who was an opera singer. Encouraging her children to learn the piano, Steffen quickly became interested in many other instruments, including the trumpet.  At the age of 11, he picked up the guitar and hasn’t put it down since.  While his older brother discovered rock and brought an electric guitar into the house, Steffen was attracted to the jazz and funk music of the 1970’s.It was at this time, in his hometown of Deggendorf, that Steffen formed a jazz funk band with Raimund Breitfeld and Stephan Goessl of World5.  The band played their own compositions, won competitions and was a local sensation. Steffen went on to study classical guitar and trumpet at the Richard Strauss Conservatorium in Munich, following that up with a year’s study in jazz guitar in Los Angeles. As a typical student – broke – Steffen returned to Germany. His obvious skill on the guitar was quickly seized upon by many musicians, and he played everything from classical concerts to studio sessions to band gigs and tours in Europe. While playing in bands in Austria, Steffen met his wife-to-be from New Zealand.  A couple of years later, they settled in Wellington, New Zealand, where he established himself as a professional musician. Playing regularly, Steffen also inspires hundreds of students through his teaching at secondary schools.  In 2000, Steffen released his solo CD – “A Dozen One Afternoon” – an album of 12 original compositions played on the nylon string guitar. Steffen’s professionalism and musical talents are indisputable, combining harmonic sounds, catchy melodies and smooth grooves. With his skills and experience delivering a quality listening experience to many musical genres, a call from his friend Raimund, to invite him to play for World5 reintroduced him to pop music.

Stephan Goessl - saxophone, keys

Munich, Germany

Stephan Goessl was born in Munich, Germany to a musical family. During childhood there was always someone playing an instrument at home. Like any kid, Stephan was eager to join in. At the age of seven he started with violin lessons. As violin didn't turn out to be much fun for him, he switched to clarinet and later to saxophone while continuing playing piano & keyboards. In his early teens he joined his first school bands and began playing concerts. While living in the U.S. as an exchange student, he played with friends and became member of high school concert & marching band. Music turned into a passion and not just a hobby. After returning to Germany, he performed with many bands as sax/keyboard player and was involved in some production projects. Stephan, Raimund Breitfeld and Steffen Goeres also played together at that time. One of the groups were elected as best bavarian newcomers. They opened for some major acts in the munich area (e.g. James Brown, Climax Blues Band). Stephan also developed his expertise with computer science and integrated it with music production which has made him an asset to World5.

Raimund Breitfeld - drums, percussion

Gothenburgh, Sweden

At the age of four Raimund Breitfeld decided to help his mother, a concert pianist,  by operating the pedals of the Steinway as she played. It didn´t take long for her to decide that it might be better for him to operate the keyboard instead of the pedals and he received his first piano lessons. Most of the radio stations didnt play classical music though, so for Raimund it was Pop and Rock music. This inspired him to make his own guitar. One day while his parents left the house for some hours, Raimund grabbed his fathers violin. He did a little cutting with a saw and added some frets ...and Raimund's first guitar was born. Raimund's first pocket money came and a brand new electric guitar was unavoidable. Shortly after blowing up his grandparent's radio in an attempt to amplify his new guitar Raimund received a real amplifier as well. During his high school days Raimund  and his good friend Steffen Goeres performed together in several Rock and Pop bands. Steffen's skills on the guitar was so advanced that he was already doing solo concerts as a teenager. Steffen was so dedicated that he literally slept with his guitar. Raimund couldn´t keep up with Steffen on guitar and since there were very few drummers in their small town and their skills were moderate Raimund found his calling behind the drums. Drum lessons, music academy and the college of music followed and he ended up with a degree as a drummer and music teacher. He played with many bands and musicians over the years, among them members of the bands Herman´s Hermits, Nazareth and the Beach Boys. Crossing paths and playing together over the years in different bands Raimund and his friends, singer Don Bruner, saxophonist Stephan Goessl, guitarist Steffen Goeres along with Don's long time friend, bassist Roland Childs have joined together from all around the world to create the music of World5.

Roland Childs - Bass,vocals

San Francisco, California  USA

Roland caught the music bug at the age of 3 when his older brothers taught him to snap his fingers to Chuck Berry. Flash forward 20 years and Roland was immersed in the LA music scene, finishing the music degree he started in college by playing at recording sessions and in clubs six nights a week.A mop of long hair and hard rock gave way to R&B, blues and indie rock. In virtually every band line up, Roland fell in with brilliant musicians, some quasi-famous, some obscure, many of them mentors. Then he quit. Hardly picked up an instrument for 10 years as he pursued journalism and then corporate gigs. Quitting music for Roland turned out to be like trying to supress a sneeze. So he started playing again. This time there was no pressure to make it or to be the next bass phenom. The chops returned and so did the gigs. He started writing songs. Produced his first album, "Dogpatch Sonatas", in 2010. In addition to his solo work, Roland is now the newest member of World5, which reunites him with one of his oldest friends and first music mentors, Don Bruner.
